Shreveport College Connects Job Seekers, Employers

The nation’s jobless rate rocketed to 10.2 percent in October, the highest since early 1983, the government reported Friday. Economists had not expected the 10 percent mark to come so quickly and immediately darkened their forecasts.
The same day, Brian Graphia was among many at a job fair at Remington College in Shreveport that attracted about 30 employers, including Best Buy, the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI and Goodwill Industries.
Graphia, a 27-year-old Shreveporter, is ready to cut his own path in life after spending the past few years following his father’s lead. First, Graphia joined the military but quickly decided it wasn’t for him; then he became a union plumber, again emulating his father. After about five years as a plumber, Graphia now is studying electrical technology at Remington College and expects to finish in August…
