To help students connect with local service agencies who may assist them, Remington College – Cleveland Campus held its first Social Services Informational Fair on June 24, 2010. The event, open to the public, was coordinated by Ms. Darlene Grayson, Student Services Advisor.
More than 20 agencies accepted an invitation to set up informational tables at the college campus. As a result, the halls were lined with representatives from local organizations, all ready to assist our students and guests.
As they visited each table, our students and their guests had an opportunity to receive informational materials and discuss their individual needs with the agency representatives.
Agencies in attendance provided information on day care assistance, neighborhood housing services, domestic violence awareness, consumer credit counseling, and job and family services.
In addition, complimentary blood pressure and cholesterol checks were provided by the school’s allied health students under the direction of Ms. Joan Crosby, Medical Assisting Department Chair.
The event concluded with a networking luncheon hosted by Remington College, which enabled agency representatives to ask questions and learn about one another’s services, all with the common goal of better serving the community.
After the event, one organization in attendance commented, “The non-stop flow of traffic allowed everyone to visit all of the tables and learn more about the services offered in the area. Knowing that these resources are right in our own backyard is valuable. This was great and should be done annually!”
