Remington College – Memphis Campus recently celebrated the first graduates from its new HVAC Diploma Program. Fifteen students graduated in April, and 90 students are currently enrolled in the program.

The program can be completed in as few as nine months and teaches students in accordance with the National Skill Standards for HVAC technicians.

The Remington College HVAC Program is designed to provide in-depth knowledge of HVAC systems and the hands-on skills needed to maintain and troubleshoot today’s complex heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems with an emphasis on both residential and light commercial work.

The program is divided into nine monthly academic periods. Classes include:

  • Introduction to HVAC and Refrigeration
  • Fundamental HVAC Maintenance
  • HVAC Automated Controls
  • Residential Systems I
  • Residential Systems II
  • Commercial HVAC Systems
  • Commercial Refrigeration Systems
  • Domestic Appliances and Cold Water AC

“While we can’t guarantee jobs for our graduates, our objective is to prepare students for entry-level positions in the HVAC industry,” said Lori May, Remington College – Memphis Campus President. “In addition to classroom instruction, our students get hands-on training by working with real equipment.”

Students work on a variety of real equipment, including three- and four-ton straight cool systems, three-ton heat pumps, gas furnaces and three-ton packaged heat pump systems, Straight Cool with Resistive Heat R-22, 3-Ton Heat Pumps with Resistive Heat R-22 and 3-Ton Packages with Gas Heat R-22 or Gas Heat R-401A.

Trainers that students use include heat pump control trainers, mobile gas burner demonstrators, compression fault simulators and air conditioning system trainers.

Students in the Remington College HVAC Diploma Program are required to earn their Universal EPA Certification during the first month of the program in order to move on to the second class.

Current tuition for the program includes books, classroom materials and a toolkit that students get to keep after graduation. The toolkit includes a digital stick meter with amp clamp, a thermocouple with leads and case, a minitemp infrared meter, valve core remover/installer, pocket driver and several other tools.
