On October 2, 2010, a team of 10 students, four faculty members, and the families of students and staff from Remington College in Nashville participated in the Nashville CARES AIDS Walk 2010.

The team was organized and led by Director of Admissions Tanya Legg. Together, our Nashville college students and staff completed a 3.1-mile walk that started at Bicentennial Mall State Park and looped around the Capitol Building, in the downtown area of Nashville. A total of $335 was donated to Nashville CARES on behalf of the Remington College participants.

Why participating in the AIDS walk was important to our Nashville college students:

Meeting someone who has HIV at the AIDS walk really put things into perspective. It’s great to learn how to communicate with a patient who has this disease in the classroom setting, but to talk to a person at the event who was HIV positive really made a lasting impression on me.  I am glad I was able to make that person feel comfortable, and it helped me to be more comfortable with it as well,” said Medical Assisting student Tajalin Draper.

Admissions Representative and Nashville CARES AIDS Walk 2010 participant Lauren Bazdarevic stated, “I think being involved in community events like this one gives our students a sense of pride and helps them play a bigger role in their community.”

Overwhelmingly, the walk participants were honored and proud to walk for this cause.
