Thanks to the students and staff in our Dallas Culinary Arts and Pastry Arts programs, Valentine’s Day 2011 was especially sweet at three Buckner Children and Family Services after-school programs in the Dallas area.
Stocked with an ample supply of heart-shaped sugar cookies, along with pink, red, and white frosting and an assortment of sprinkles and candies, eight Remington College students and several instructors visited three local Buckner facilities to share a fun and creative cookie-decorating project with the children there.
The group was greeted with excitement by the children at all three Buckner facilities, and they soon put their energy and imagination to work by decorating the sugar cookies as a special Valentine’s Day treat.
Chef Cohen noted, “Participating in events like this one gives our students a chance to practice their skills in preparing the pastry items and provides them with an opportunity to be charitable by giving their time and attention to children who are so often overlooked, yet who are the future of our society.”
Chef Cohen would like to participate in more events with the Buckner kids and hopes to plan another visit soon.
Buckner Children and Family Services is part of a globally oriented ministry that responds to children in need through a global humanitarian aid program, volunteer missions opportunities, community enrichment and prevention programs, an international network of residential, foster care and transition services, domestic and international adoption, and support programs for children living in orphanages in other countries.
