Each year, Remington College – Fort Worth employees participate in supporting the work of the American Cancer Society (ACS), and 2011 marked the Campus’s third year of participation in the ACS “Relay For Life” event.

Administrative Assistant and Team Leader Lydia Ramirez and her daughter Valerie.

This annual event gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Because cancer never sleeps, the Relays are overnight and sometimes last up to 24 hours.

This year at their local Relay, held on Friday, April 29, at the Texas Rangers’ ballpark in Arlington, Texas, Remington College – Fort Worth employees signed up in teams of six or more to participate during the hours of 7 p.m. through 7 a.m. the following morning. Each team had a representative on the track at all times during the event, either walking or running around the ballpark track in shifts.

Our Fort Worth Campus had a fundraising goal of $1,500 and held various fundraisers on Campus to raise this money. The Campus is pleased to have surpassed its goal for 2011 in raising a total of $1,772.60.

Michelle Riggs and her husband, Campus Technical Support Person Matt Riggs.

“I like to participate in the Relay every year, because I believe in hope – hope that what we’re doing every year makes a difference and raises awareness and funds, so that one day, there will be a cure for cancer. The amount of support we received this year from our faculty and staff is truly amazing,” said Administrative Assistant Lydia Ramirez.

Business Administration Instructor John Specht said, “It’s such a fitting name and the perfect time of year for this event – you can feel life everywhere! What an honor to be a part of it!”
