Mobile’s Process Control Engineering Technology Associate’s Degree Program Receives Endorsement from NAPTA

On Friday, April 27, 2012, the Process Control Engineering Technology (PCET) degree program at Remington College – Mobile Campus received recognition as a NAPTA-endorsed college program.

This special and coveted acknowledgement was presented at a quarterly meeting of the North American Process Technology Alliance (NAPTA), held in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Campus President Steve Backman and PCET Program Chair Frank Huckabee were on hand to accept the honor.

The NAPTA organization consists of Process Technology education providers and their business, industry, and community advisors, all cooperatively working toward common goals. Through a collaboration among industries, educational institutions, the government, and others, NAPTA supports the development of a diverse, qualified Process Technology talent pool to meet workforce needs in North America. To help achieve that goal, NAPTA audits Process Technology degree programs across the United States and endorses those that meet its criteria.

According to Mr. Backman, only 20 colleges nationwide currently have fully recognized programs, and only one other is a private college and not a community college.

What Does the NAPTA Endorsement Signify?
This recognition from NAPTA signifies that the PCET team at Mobile is carrying out the program’s mission well and that the curriculum taught, the equipment used, and the program outcomes are meeting the standards of the Alliance.

In bestowing the endorsement, NAPTA representatives especially noted our Mobile Campus’s contributions to the Alliance. Frank Huckabee is on the curriculum committee and on the team established to transition from the Gulf Coast Alliance to the North American Alliance. Additionally, Mobile Campus Job Development Specialist John Lynam previously served on the membership committee, and Steve Backman served on the standards committee for a time.

Kudos to the Process Control Engineering Technology Degree Team
Mr. Backman acknowledged the efforts of the PCET team at Mobile, saying, “It’s gratifying to be able to see the birth and maturation of this program. The work that Frank Huckabee has put into this process has made it possible to achieve this endorsement probably two years ahead of the norm.”

He added, “Our instructors are the biggest part of this success. Congratulations go to Mike Gelsie, Roger Pettis, Joe Williams, Bob Carson, Bruce Miller, Steven Dole, and Eddie Tolbert.”

To that, Remington College also extends its congratulations to the entire PCET team at our Mobile Campus!
