Fort Worth Campus Continues Pop Tab Collection Efforts for Ronald McDonald House

Contributed by Dana Seelye, Campus Librarian and Student Services Coordinator

The Ronald McDonald House in Fort Worth, Texas, opened in 1981, with a new home built in 1996 one block from Cook Children’s Medical Center and Harris Methodist Hospital. The house serves families who travel 40 or more miles to Fort Worth for pediatric care while their children receive treatment for cancer, traumatic accidents, premature birth, or other life-threatening illnesses. Each house is autonomous and raises about 90% of its own funding.

For about four weeks, students, staff, and faculty at Remington College – Fort Worth Campus have been diligently saving each pull tab from their beverages and depositing them in receptacles in the Student Center and Library. The Fort Worth Ronald McDonald House uses the proceeds from these collected tabs to fund its various needs.

Fort Worth High School Admissions Representative Tracie Mendoza

On June 22, 2012, Fort Worth Campus High School Admissions Representative Tracie Mendoza took the time to deliver our “bucket of tabs” to the Ronald McDonald House Manager, who expressed sincere gratitude for our efforts.

It was one of our past students who brought the work of the local Ronald McDonald House to our attention. Since then, the Fort Worth Campus has teamed with the organization to try to provide as many wish-list items as possible. It’s a large task, but no job is too small when you have the caring and dedication of the students, faculty, and staff at the Fort Worth Campus.

Fort Worth’s Commitment Inspires Local Organization
Our Fort Worth Campus’s ongoing efforts have moved a local organization, Kid Care Pediatrics, to get involved as well.

Kid Care Pediatrics has been serving the Metroplex area since 2001 with locations in Fort Worth and Keller. Over the last two years, the practice has developed a strong working relationship with Remington College.

Through this relationship, Kid Care Pediatrics has initiated its own program to support not only the Fort Worth Ronald McDonald House but also the March of Dimes, another worthy organization that our Fort Worth Campus supports as part of our continuing commitment to helping families in need in the Metroplex area.
