Remington College’s Nashville Campus held its annual National Night Out to fight crime and promote community safety on August 5, 2014, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Well over 200 people took part in the free community event, which featured complimentary food along with educational and fun activities for everyone.

Kids in attendance took part in a number of fun activities, and several informative booths from social service organizations were set up to help inform the public in attendance. Nashville’s police and fire departments participated as well and brought along some of their equipment for display.

Our Nashville student groups participated as follows:

  • The Criminal Justice group, who sponsored the event, offered child fingerprinting as a service for parents.
  • The Pharmacy Technician group provided homemade bubbles for kids and adults alike to enjoy.
  • The Cosmetology group provided face painting for children.
  • The combined Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting groups took dental impressions, known as toothprints, as a service for parents.
  • The Medical Assisting group provided health information cards that people can use to track their personal health-related data and other relevant medical information.

Local organizations like CASA of Nashville, the Nashville YWCA, New Horizons, the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, Frito-Lay, the United States Army, and Fifth Third Bank, manned information booths and contributed donations.

Attendees enjoyed activities such as a basketball bounce, hopscotch, sidewalk art, and other games, and more than 300 hot dogs and hamburgers were consumed.

In addition to all of the outdoor games, booths, and festivities, Nashville Instructor Dr. Evelyn Apgar invited local attorney and educator Patrick Patterson to speak with our Criminal Justice students about criminal cases and how they are investigated and prosecuted.
